temptestament

What felt like an eternity in a dead universe had been uniquely painful for a Testament, though he didn't know how he had continued to exist with even Wilhelm gone. But he had, and the emptiness of humanity's Collective Unconcious had hung on him like a weight. In a way, it was a victory. With Yeshua gone, the universe itself would never dissipate. But what did that mean, when everything that had made it worth saving was gone?

Nothing, that was what. And even the Testaments didn't have the power to create life from nothing. Could the universe even support it anymore? He didn't know. He felt helpless, moreso than he ever had in his life and unlife combined. But then the life returned. And he discovered that he could go back to that place at will.

At first, he wandered the halls of the reduced tower invisibly, wondering if he should try to find anyone he knew. Did he even remember how to interact with people? It had been so long since he'd even had reason to speak. But eventually the loneliness became overbearing. He wasn't ready to show his face, the mask always helped when he felt like his emotions weren't stable enough for a conversation. But even masked, he knew anyone he wanted to see would recognize him by the brown cloak. He was tempted to reach out his senses, to try to confirm if they were here or not...but sometimes, uncertainty was better than the possibility of an unwelcome answer. He'd look the human way, at least for now.
