Happy Birthday sweet sixteen
Characters: Romeo and anyone
Setting: 1st June
Summary: It is Romeo's birthday and thanks to the extra years in his head he is sixteen today.
Today was Romeo's birthday. It was summer and it had been a beautiful warm day. He had spent it with Bianca and Dante, he had had the day off school and doctor Casella had hired a cart for them to go and visit Sonogno. It had been wonderful visiting his parents and brothers.
He and his dad had walked up to the fields at the top of the hill, his dad told him that he was very proud of him for all he had done so far. That now he was thirteen he was practically an adult and had a lot more to face in the future.
Romeo had been uncharacteristically quiet on the way back, because he wasn't thirteen at all. He was sixteen and he had faced more than he could ever tell his dad.
He had cheered up quickly, because he was not one to let his spirits stay down for long and they had had a meal and his mum had made a fruit pie especially for him.
Much later when they were back in the city Romeo went off on his own, Dante and Bianca understood, unlike his dad they knew about the tower and the three years that the world had technically been dead for.
A door appeared quite quickly and Romeo stepped through into the little tower. Sometimes there were people there, sometimes it was empty but it was always nice to see his friends and he would like to celebrate the fact he was sixteen- older than he had ever imagined he would get.
Sixteen not thirteen, on his actual thirteenth birthday... well that had been the day they had realised they were not real, just trapped souls. What a difference to today, with friends and family, looking forward to school in the morning and thinking of how to help Bianca with her patients in the afternoon.
